How many hours of sleep do you get on a given night? If you’re like most Americans, it’s probably around six hours. Sleep experts, however, recommend most adults get between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. Not only can sleep deprivation lead to serious cognitive, health, and performance consequences like increased stress and weight gain, researchers also estimate that inadequate sleep costs the U.S. economy $411 billion each year.
